Locating in the phase 1 of Mehrshahr city, this project is a 3 storey residential building. Considering the long shape of the land, the primary design criterion was to maximize view and sunlight exposure to the residential units. Another important criterion was to provide private yards which minimize overlook to each residential unit. We believe that the residential typology in Iran needs major reconsiderations in order to address not only physical requirements of a shelter, but also human spiritual desires. In this project, alterations in the relationship between building elements led to a new building typology which improves lifestyle of the residents. The volume of the project consists of a structural concrete shell, inclosing the interior spaces on three levels. Separation of the structural elements from the building volume and formation of the outer structural shell enabled us to shift floor volumes over each other to create open and semi open yards for each unit and to maximize view to the backyard. The concrete shell was lifted over the roof area to create a sloped roof spanning over the semi open roof garden. We believe that issues such as the presence of greenery as well as proper natural light and ventilation in the living environment are basic requirements of a healthy life. In this project, the living environment has been merged with nature and various semi open spaces on the residential levels improve the living quality and eventually the mental health of the residents.
