This project is located at the junction of two distinct regions of the Kish Island, the developed and the developing districts. The strategic position of the site gives the project a unique opportunity to become an iconic landmark of the city. Starting with a simple solid mass, the geometry of the building was formed by the intersection of two U shaped voids carved into the volume, one at the base and the other at the top. The intersection of these two voids formed a new open space, linking the building to the city. The voids were made closed on one side to maintain the required floor area and privacy. The final outcome of the project was influenced by a consistent grid network growing from the outer shell to the interior voids, as well as factors such as sunlight exposure, desired shading pattern, ventilation, view (for the hotel rooms), and visibility (for the commercial units).
